Volunteer Support Specialist Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
The Volunteer Support Specialist (VSS) is responsible for the retention of Girl Scout adult volunteers within a specific geographic region. The VSS is the contact for volunteers in their region and is responsible for supporting new and existing volunteers. The VSS must understand the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). The VSS will be responsible for a yearly adult retention goal and membership goal and will be evaluated on those goals every quarter.
Primary Functions:
· Communicates with the Community Engagement Specialist on a regular basis to ensure yearly goals are met.
· Follows up on all potential volunteers received from the Community Engagement Specialist (CES) and others from various resources, within 24 hours of receiving.
· Sends a welcome email to all potential new volunteers.
· Walks all new volunteers through the on-boarding process and ensures they complete required trainings (Successful Leader Learning Series, First Steps for New Co-Leaders, Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention, etc.)
· Maintains regional volunteer data base to ensure all necessary paperwork (i.e. Trip Approval Forms, Extra Insurance form, End of Year Finance Report etc.) is received.
· Encourages existing volunteers to update trainings when moving from one grade level to the next.
· Communicates with new volunteers on a regular basis as needed, but at least once a month. Communicate with existing volunteers monthly.
· Attends monthly Service Team and Service Unit meetings.
· Assists CES with attendance at community events especially during the months of August, September and October.
· Promotes adult recognitions and ensure applications are complete before turning over to the appropriate staff member.
· Presents Service Unit Benchmarks to the Service Team and share girl and adult membership and retention goals.
· Works with Service Team to create annual Service Unit Plan of Work.
· Works with Service Team to ensure completion of Service Unit Plan of work goals.
· Uses social media to promote upcoming Service Unit and council events and/or initiatives.
· Recruits Service Unit Chair and other Service Team positions as necessary.
· Understands GSESC and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) resources, how to use them and how to present them to potential Girl Scout volunteers.
· Uses Salesforce, Volunteer Toolkit and Looker to assist GSESC in achieving membership goals and the retention of adult volunteers.
· Uses Salesforce and Looker to pull membership reports and information. Utilizes these reports to increase girl and adult membership in specific geographic region.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Specifications:
· High School Diploma required/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Valid SC Driver’s License and appropriate automobile insurance required.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
· Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
· Conflict resolution skills are highly desirable.
· Experience working with a customer relationship management system, such as Salesforce, is desirable.
· Ability to work with limited supervision.
· Ability to work in a team environment with other staff to accomplish established goals.
· Ability to work with volunteers.
· Must register with GSUSA every year or become a lifetime member and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
· Must purchase and wear a Girl Scout uniform as required.
· Be professional in dress, speech and demeanor.
· Ability to some work nights and weekends as required.

Community Engagement Specialist
Position Title: Community Engagement Specialist

Pay: $29,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
Location:
1. Region 1 - Florence and six surrounding Counties, South Carolina
2. Region 2 - Clarendon, Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg Counties, South Carolina
3. Regions 4 & 5 - Beaufort, Colleton, Dorchester, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun and Orangeburg Counties, South Carolina
The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and assessment of comprehensive year-round recruitment plans for overall membership growth that align with other council initiatives and projects. They will be responsible for, but not limited to, managing leads and recruitment efforts with the membership team for increasing membership.
• Assists in the recruitment of girls and adults through development and implementation of community cultivation strategies to elevate and enhance visibility of the Girl Scouts in the community.
• Develops, implements, and assesses comprehensive recruitment plans for membership growth in assigned geographic area.
• Interfaces with school administrators at the local school level.
• Collaborates with the Placement and Volunteer Support Specialists.
• Coordinates opportunities for community engagement events, school functions and volunteer-based recruitment in assigned area.
• Provides help as needed to new troop leadership.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Bachelor's or higher preferred or equivalent experience with two years of directly related work experience.
• Demonstrated experience with sales and partnership development.
• Demonstrated written and oral communication excellence.
• Knowledge of Girl Scouts mission, values, and culture and/or willingness to learn and adopt them.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in data entry and utilizing database systems.
• Ability to establish rapport and communicate with community members and work with persons and groups of diverse background and levels, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines often with conflicting timelines.
• Excellent problem-solving and judgment skills and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Other Considerations:
• Annual membership with GSUSA required.
• Valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance is required. Must be able to transport self and supplies to position related activities.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Travel throughout assigned area up to 50% of the time.
• Non-Exempt, flexible position requiring frequent evenings and weekends.
Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina offers health, dental, life and vision insurances. Normal business hours are Monday — Thursday (35 to 40 hour workweek).
