Girl Scouts of Eastern SC celebrates the 2021-22 Geraldyne Zimmerman Scholarship Recipient, I’ayana Sanders
The members of the Geraldyne Zimmerman Scholarship Committee are
delighted to announce and celebrate recipient I’ayana Sanders. Ms.
Sanders is in her Junior year as a Biology major at SC State
University. Committee Chairs Frances Morant and Janet Fields head up
the Geraldyne Zimmerman Gala Committee, which honors the memory and
legacy of Geraldyne Zimmerman by raising money and to award the
scholarship to a graduating Girl Scout attending a higher learning
institution in Orangeburg.
I’ayana plans to continue her education beyond college with the undergraduate Biology degree to go to Pharmacy School. She works as a Pharmacy Technician now and has since high school. She said she discovered her true passion for Pharmacology during a summer internship with MUSC in Charleston, She says about the time she spent in Pharmacology, “I found my true passion is to specialize in oncology pharmacy. That’s what really excites me, to be a part of changing lives and the world. I cannot wait to get to pharmacy school - That is my end goal.” She will earn her PharmD, the doctoral degree in Pharmacy.
I’ayana says the scholarship has made it so much easier for her to help cover tuition costs and books. She says she is so grateful that Girl Scouts of Eastern SC chose her for the scholarship award. She says, “The ladies on the committee and everyone at GSESC have been so encouraging and supportive.” And she adds, “Receiving the scholarship named for the Legend and community icon Mrs. Zimmerman is beyond an honor and is extremely humbling."
