Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida is excited to announce our new one-time virtual Centennial of Suffrage Patch Program. Girls from all councils can join us August 1 – 31, 2020 to learn more about the historical importance of the suffrage movement that led to the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment and all the positive impacts women voters have had on society ever since.
Girls can participate in this virtual program on their own or with their troop over the course of the month of August by following an Activity Pack that will be provided. The program also provides LIVE virtual experiences August 4 – 6, 2020 where the following opportunities will be featured:
- Performance and live Q&A with Susan B. Anthony to talk about her journey and experience during the suffrage movement (Susan is portrayed by Sheryl Faye).
- Live conversation with Katrina Long-Robinson, Vice Mayor for the City of Westlake, Florida about the representation of Black and minority communities in the women's suffrage movement.
- Live conversation with Florida Commissioner Rita Craig, Chair of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women to explore the importance of women voters, the rights of women today, how women can hold public office and how they make a difference in their communities.
- Live conversation with Supervisor of Elections for Palm Beach County Wendy Sartory Link who will discuss the voting and election process, the importance of voting, how you register to vote, how voting impacts our communities and our nation, how women have made change through voting.
Upon completion of this program, girls of all grade levels will earn a limited edition Centennial of Suffrage patch commemorating the centennial of this great moment in history and a NEW badge released by GSUSA this July! Both are included in the program cost and will be shipped to girls outside of the GSSEF council.
The cost to participate in this program is $19 for out-of-council members, which includes the shipping of the patch and badge. We are accepting a limited number of registrations! Registration closes July 31, or when capacity is reached.
