Training

Troop Camp Training

Since every troop going camping must have at least one certified troop camper with them, this course is required of at least one adult registered with the troop. To be a troop camper, an adult must be present for the entire training, which teaches basic cooking, outdoor skills and acquaints the adults with Camp Low Country and Sandy Ridge. Adults will be given the resources to register for a site and be aware of the property rules and regulations.

Troop Camp 1

Learn the basics of Troop Camping in the scenic surroundings of either Sandy Ridge or Camp Low Country. Included in this training will be fire building, cooking, knots, care of equipment, policy and procedures, progression of different skills and other entry level skills and knowledge you need to have a successful camp out. Come, enjoy learning with others and share songs and S’mores at the campfire. This is an overnight experience.

What to bring: Insect repellant, paper/pencil, unbreakable cup with handle, plate, bowl, dunk bag, (small draw sting bag used for sterilizing utensils), sleeping bag, overnight gear, flashlight, closed toed shoes (no sandals) and clothing appropriate for the weather. You may be sleeping in tents or cabins & it sometimes gets very cool at camp.

All participants must be registered Girl Scouts.

Cost: $25.00 (includes food and handouts)

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 25

Deadline is 2 weeks (14 days) before the class. Please use a Training Registration Form to register for this training.

Be sure and eat before arriving at camp or bring your dinner with you. Check in is from 6pm to 6:30pm and training will start promptly at 7pm . This training session will end Saturday at 7pm .

Troop Camp 11

Expand your knowledge and skills gained at Troop Camping 1 while enjoying either Sandy Ridge or Camp Low Country. This course prepares you to work with your troop on more advanced skills including new knots, lashing, different methods of outdoor cooking, compass, latrines, the difference between poisonous and non-poisonous creatures of nature and many other skills. This is an overnight experience.

Pre requisite for this course is Troop Camping 1 or Certified Troop Camper.

Troop Camping 111

Is your troop ready for primitive camping? This course prepares you to bring your troop camping in the great outdoors. You will learn proper selection of your site, catching your food, and supplies, water purification, the basics of pit-latrines, creating working surfaces through using lashing skills, and using instinct and all previously learned skills. There is a mandatory pre-meeting scheduled before this camping overnighter and advance preparations to complete. Pre requisites for this course are Orientation, Age Level Training and Troop Camping 1 and 11. Certified Troop camper is equivalent to Troop Camping 1.
