Outdoor Training

The following outdoor and camp training courses are currently offered:

Gourmet Cooking in the Great Outdoors

Add to your growing collection of outdoor recipes through this day course at either Camp Low Country or Sandy Ridge. This course includes working with different cooking methods and preparing a smorgasbord of various gourmet recipes. You are guaranteed to leave with great recipe ideas for your troop. Pre-requisites for this course: Orientation, Age Level Training, Troop Camping 1 or Certified Troop Camper.

Cost is $10.00 (includes food and resource booklet)

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 25

What is Geocaching ?

Geocaching is a global treasure hunt. Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina has GPS units to teach you how to use coordinates to find “treasures”. This training will provide you with printed examples so you will have a resource for later. Geocaching is an environmental friendly sport. You will learn what the basic rules are of this new sport and spend some time searching for hidden “treasures”. Basic compass use will also be included in this training. Fee: $5.00

Minimum: 6 Maximum: 24

Equestrian Assistant Training

Volunteers involved in the equestrian program will be actively involved in multiple aspects of lessons, program events and troop rides. You will learn how to take care of the horses on a daily basis including feeding and barn management. Volunteers will learn how to help students tack up and assist them during their beginning lessons. All Volunteers must have completed Orientation and have First Aid/CPR. This session will provide both. Friday evening there will be an Orientation into Girl Scouts as well as our Equestrian Program. Saturday will be a First Aid/CPR class. If you have First/Aid CPR (provide a copy of your card) you will schedule time with our Equestrian Program Specialist to review all rules and find out how the barn at Camp Low Country runs. You will need to sign a Job Agreement and be a Registered Girl Scout.

Bring a sack lunch and drinks on Friday night. Lunch will be provided on Saturday. Please use a Training Registration Form to register for this training.

Cost : $15.00

Low Ropes Facilitator Training

Come to Camp Low Country and learn to facilitate the Lo Ropes Course. This course helps develop teamwork & allows for individual challenges as well. During this training you will learn how to facilitate the Lo Ropes course elements. You will also learn how to complete the appropriate paperwork so your troop or Service Area can use this resource. Please remember to bring a sack lunch & drinks.

Minimum: 6 Maximum: 16

       

Climbing Wall Facilitator Training

Learn how to belay your troop up Camp Low Country’s climbing wall. During this training you will learn how to use the climbing wall safely. You will learn how to tie knots, fit harnesses & helmets, & belay the girls up the wall. You DO NOT have to get off the ground to facilitate the climbing wall. Please remember to bring a sack lunch & drinks.

Minimum: 6 Maximum: 16

       

Wilderness First Aid Basics Training

This Level 2 certification by the Red Cross is necessary for many activities including facilitating the Hi Ropes course, backpacking, hiking more than 10 miles from emergency assistance, trip & travel camping, and whitewater kayaking. The course is 16 hours in length & you must be in attendance for the entire course. Participants must be in good health (you will be doing some carries & lots of getting up & down as well as walking). Please remember to bring a sack lunch & drinks for both days. All participants must be registered Girls Scouts to attend.

Time: 9am to 5pm both days.

Fee: $25.00

Minimum: 6 Maximum: 12

       

Level 1 Basic Archery Instructor Course

Girl Scouts of Carolina Low Country will be hosting a National Archery Association Level 1 Basic Archery Instructor Course. By becoming a Level 1 instructor you will be able to use the council’s archery equipment. Your troop can progress through the council’s Archery Program at your own pace. This course is intended to be taken by persons with no experience in the sport of archery.

Level 1 Certification is good for 3 years. Use a Training Registration Form to register for this class.

Fee: $50.00 (Includes instructor Manual and Certification card)

Minimum: 12 Maximum: 12
