Outdoor Training

The following outdoor and camp training courses are currently offered:

Gourmet Cooking in the Great Outdoors

Add to your growing collection of outdoor recipes through this day course at either Camp Low Country or Camp Sandy Ridge. This course includes working with different cooking methods and preparing a smorgasbord of various gourmet recipes. You are guaranteed to leave with great recipe ideas for your troop.

Who: Registered Girl Scout adults, who have completed Troop Camping, Troop Camping I or Certified Troop Camper
Fee: $20.00

What is Geocaching ?

Geocaching is a global scavenger hunt. Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina has GPS units to teach you how to use coordinates to find caches. You will learn what the basic rules are of this new sport and spend some time searching for hidden “treasures”. Basic compass use will also be included in this training. This training will provide you with printed examples so you will have a resource for later. For more information on Geocaching visit: http://www.geocaching.com.

Lo Ropes Facilitator Training

Come to Camp Low Country and learn to facilitate the Lo Ropes Course. This course helps develop teamwork and allows for individual challenges as well. During this training you will learn how to facilitate the Lo Ropes course elements. You will also learn how to complete the appropriate paperwork so your troop or Service Area can use this resource.

Climbing Wall Facilitator Training

Learn how to belay your troop up Camp Low Country's climbing wall. During this training you will learn how to use the climbing wall safely. You will learn how to tie knots, fit harnesses and helmets, and belay the girls up the wall. You DO NOT have to get off the ground to facilitate the climbing wall.

Wilderness First Aid Basics Training

This Level 2 certification by the America Red Cross is necessary for many activities including facilitating the Hi Ropes course, backpacking, hiking more than 10 miles from emergency assistance, trip and travel camping, and whitewater kayaking. The course is 16 hours in length and you must be in attendance for the entire course. Participants must be in good health (you will be doing some carries and lots of getting up and down as well as walking).

National Archery Association Level 1 Basic Archery Instructor Course

Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina will be hosting a National Archery Association Level 1 Basic Archery Instructor Course. By becoming a Level 1 instructor you will be able to use the council's archery equipment. Your troop can progress through the council's Archery Program at your own pace. This course is intended to be taken by persons with no experience in the sport of archery. Level 1 Certification is good for 3 years.

Junior Jam Leader Training

Is your troop interested in participating in Junior Jam 2009 but you have no idea how tie knots, build a campfire, read a compass, or lash. Come to Camp Low Country for a day of learning (or refreshing) your outdoor skills. We will also discuss the Junior Jam Event and give you information to take back to your troop to help them prepare for the competition. This training is open to all registered adults associated with Junior troops who wish to participate in the event and registered adults associated with Cadette and Senior troops who wish to help organize and run the event.
