Troop Camp Training

Since every troop going camping must have at least one certified troop camper with them, this course is required of at least one adult registered with the troop. To be a troop camper, an adult must be present for the entire training, which teaches basic cooking, outdoor skills and acquaints the adults with Camp Low Country and Sandy Ridge. Adults will be given the resources to register for a site and be aware of the property rules and regulations.

Planning Trip with Girls "Prerequisite to the "New" Troop Camping"

This is a required training for leaders or a registered adult who will be planning trips with girls. Planning trips, staying in hotels, public buildings and self contained buildings, even at camp, will be covered. "Safety Wise" will be the main focus of this training along with information about making reservations at our sites. Please bring your "Safety Wise" with you to this training.

Troop Camping "NEW FORMAT"

To be a troop camper, an adult must be present for the entire training, which teaches basic cooking, outdoor skills and acquaints the adults with Camp Low Country and Sandy Ridge. Adults will be given the resources to register for a site and become familiar with Camp Low Country and Sandy Ridge rules and regulations. Troop Camping is for any type of camping either on Girl Scout property or at other locations. This includes tent camping. You will receive all of the skills you need to teach your girls a lot about the outdoors before you will need any more training. It is highly recommended that each troop has a copy of the Outdoor Education book that is for sale in our Council shops. **If you are more than 30 minutes late for this training you will not be given credit, no exceptions.

The Trail from Troop Camping I to Primitive Camping

This training is for all volunteers who have attended Troop Camp I and did not get to take Troop Camp II. We will cover propane stoves, tents, snakes, insects, plants and compasses. You cannot attend Primitive Camping without this training unless you have attended Troop Camp II or Certified Troop Camper in the past. There will be a $5 fee for this course and it will be offered at different locations.

Primitive Camping

Is your troop ready for primitive camping? This training prepares you to take your troop camping in primitive settings. You will learn about site selection, caching your food, supplies, water purification, the basics of pit latrines, creating working surfaces by using lashing skills, and using instinct and all previously learned skills. There is a mandatory meeting scheduled before this camping overnight and advanced preparations to complete.
