From the Island Packet:
More than 90 years ago, being a model Girl Scout meant knowing how to price three cuts of meat, properly store your fur and flannels and operate a vacuum. But to remain relevant in the 21st century, the national girl power organization knew it had to do a little housekeeping of its own. While the scouts of several cookie boxes past endeavored to earn badges like Matron Housekeeper, Child Nurse and Dairy Maid, today's leading ladies are going for insignia like CyberGirl Scout, Couch Potato, B Xtreme! and the Ms. President patch. Since 2000, the organization has been working to revamp its image to keep girls interested by adopting a new mission statement and introducing a more contemporary line of awards and badges.
