On May 11 and 18, 2013, the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina Field Director, Benita Jacobs-Singletary and Pee Dee Regional Career Specialist, Crishell J.-Bass hosted the first Girl Scout Career Exploration event. The purpose of this event was to provide these young ladies with the necessary tools needed to begin their career paths. The event was hosted on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College. Young ladies throughout the Pee Dee Region attended with their parents and troop leaders. Professional women from various careers addressed how they prepared for their current career.
On Saturday, May 11, 2013,the agenda included guest speaker Javae McWhite, a current Girl Scout and senior at the College of Charleston. Javae’s message was on staying focused on your goals. Itwas a powerful message on how to pursue your dreams and it made a power impact on each of the participants. After Javae’s motivating speech, Crishell J.-Bass administered a career assessment test. Not only did the young ladies take the test, but their parents did as well. Each of the young ladies who took the test received confirmation that the career path that they were on was accurate. The day wrapped up with the following guest speakers: Janice Eaddy, First Citizens Bank Licensed Retail Sales Manager I VP;Rozlyn Ford, Human Resource Generalist with Blue Cross Blue/ Blue Shield; and Catherine McWhite, Girl Scout Volunteer & owner of Hawkins Tax Services.
On Saturday, May 18, 2013, the agenda included Lisa Farley, Human Resources Generalist with Blue Cross/Blue Shield; Denise Poster, Admissions Counselor for Kenneth Shuler Cosmetology College; Renee Wiley, Prevention Specialist with Circle Park Behavioral Health Services; and Benita Singletary, Girl Scouts Field Director of Eastern South Carolina. Before the closing remarks were made, the 12 participants were presented certificates and honoree badges.
