Girl Scouts Receive Organizations Highest Honor
(Charleston, SC) — On May 18th, the Girl Scouts of Eastern SC congratulated and honored area Girl Scouts for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. The following girls earned their Gold Awards for the following Gold Award projects:
Reghan Teressa Timmons with “Going Green for Good” (Florence area)
Kimesha Yvette Myers with “Step into Reading” (Florence area) *also recipient of The Mary Dean Brewer Scholarship
Ellen Hill with “Recycling at Berkeley High School” (Moncks Corner)
Allison M Huggins with “Educating Others about Human Trafficking” (Mt Pleasant)
JaLisa N Decker with “Palmetto Scholars Academy Afterschool Tutoring Program” (Mt. Pleasant)
Megan Ashley Herlihy with “Protect Your Pooch” (Mt. Pleasant)
Alayna Owens with “Affordable Healthcare Information Fair” (North Charleston)
Margaret Brumfield with “Christian Academy Prayer Garden” (Pawleys Island)
Addie Ledbetter with “You Text…You Next” (Summerville)
Michelle Lussier with “Fun, Food, & Fitness” (Summerville)
Sarah Graham with “Beauty and Baldness: The Naked Truth” (Summerville)
By earning their Girl Scout Gold Award, they have become community leaders. Their accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set them apart.
"Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award designation is truly a remarkable achievement, and these young women exemplify leadership in all its forms," said Loretta Graham, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Eastern SC. "They saw a need in their communities and around the world and took action. Their extraordinary dedication, perseverance, and leadership, is making the world a better place."
Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements.
Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina awards three scholarships to Girl Scouts who are graduating high school each year. This year’s awardees for 2014 include:
The Mary Dean Brewer Scholarship: Kimesha Myers, daughter of Robert and Kim Myers, of Effingham, SC. Kimesha attended Hannah-Pamplico High School and is a member of Girl Scout Troop 234.
The Lucille C. McCown Scholarship: Mary Kathleen Frame, daughter of Mike and Kathy Frame of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mary attended Wando High School and is a member of Girl Scout Troop 394.
The Grace Grady Scholarship: Verneisha Jessa’ Blessing Smith, daughter of Deborah Greggs and Vernord Smith of Pawleys Island, SC. Verneisha attended Lowcountry Preparatory School and is a member of Girl Scout Troop 683.
